The design of the Yuzhou Langting Mansion is a breakthrough in spatial definition. It combines elements of stacked yard, symmetrical axis, and broad opening and closing, achieving spatial continuity through smooth scenic design. The sales office is designed to echo the mirror water, creating a landscape painting-like effect. The regional planning extracts three elements of Jimo's ancient city - ritual sequence, central axis, and courtyard - and integrates them into the architectural space.
The architectural roof of the mansion is a unique feature, drawing inspiration from the shape of alpine ups and downs. The central part creates a sense of multiple ranges of hills using antique copper drawn aluminum square, offering a contrast against the glass curtain wall background. The entrance incorporates elements from the local ancient city, such as Bogu framework, Dougong, and lanterns.
The mansion was built using a 40 thick C20 fine aggregate concrete, troweled as it was poured. The roof is made of two parts of arc structure, with the maximum radius of arc being 5.5 meters and the minimum radius of arc being 2.9 meters. The building measures about 31 meters from north to south and 29 meters from east to west.
The design process was not without its challenges. Due to the tight construction period, the design team had to constantly use models to explore the combination relationship of building volume, materials, and space. The continuous deformation of the curved roof was deduced to develop a sense of overlapping peaks. The selection of materials also went through repeated deliberation to present a certain viewing experience in a short time.
The Yuzhou Langting Mansion is a testament to Tengyuan Design's commitment to creating spaces that respect and reflect local culture. The project was awarded the Golden A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award in 2020, a prestigious accolade granted to marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom.
